Umuahia, Abia State – September 10, 2024 –

The family of the late Mr. Obinna, popularly known as Okikpo from Umuajata, Olokoro in Umuahia South Local Government Area, has appealed to the Abia State Government, security agencies, and human rights organizations for intervention following a case of alleged jungle justice.

Mr. Obinna was reportedly beaten, flogged, and attacked with machetes by a local vigilante group led by Mr. Okechukwu. The group accused him of stealing plantains, which led to his death.

A family representative told journalists in Umuahia that, despite the severity of the incident, Mr. Okechukwu and other vigilante members involved have not been arrested, and no legal actions have been taken against them.

The family is urgently seeking justice and calls on relevant authorities and organizations to address the situation and ensure accountability for Mr. Obinna’s death.
