A recently uncovered video shows Biafran troops storming Owerri and reclaiming it from Nigerian forces during the Nigerian Civil War.
This recapture came after eight months of siege, during which the Biafran army surrounded the town, cutting off reinforcements and supplies to the Nigerian troops.
By the time the Biafran forces entered Owerri, many Nigerian soldiers had succumbed to hunger, malnutrition, or injuries sustained in the ongoing skirmishes, as there were no medical supplies to treat the wounded.
In their retreat, the Nigerian forces also carried with them the decomposing body of their commander, Major Ted Hamman, who had been killed by Biafran snipers.
