In a recent statement, Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has issued a strong warning to criminal elements causing insecurity in the Southeast region, particularly those falsely associating their activities with his name or the Biafran cause.
Kanu made it clear that he has no connection to the acts of violence being perpetrated by unknown gunmen, kidnappers, and other groups terrorizing Igboland. He stressed that such individuals are acting independently and not on his behalf, as they often claim.
“Whoever is causing insecurity in Igboland and claims they are doing it because of me is lying,” Kanu stated. “They only want to gain relevance by using the Biafra name or mine. I love my people, and there is no way I would allow them to suffer the way they are now, especially with the current wave of insecurity.”
Kanu expressed deep concern over the suffering in Igboland, disassociating himself from any actions that inflict harm on the very people he stands for. He urged his supporters to be vigilant and not fall for false claims that link his movement to acts of violence.
“I repeat, kidnappers, unknown gunmen, and anyone causing insecurity in Igboland under the pretense of doing it for me is on their own. I didn’t instruct anyone to terrorize the Southeast in my name,” he reaffirmed.
This statement serves as a firm disavowal of any violent activities linked to Kanu, as he calls for peace and an end to the insecurity plaguing the Southeast. His message highlights his commitment to the well-being of the Igbo people, while condemning those exploiting his name for unlawful acts.
