The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), through its Directorate of State (DOS), has publicly clarified that it is not responsible for the delayed burial of the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah in Nnewi North, Anambra State. IPOB issued a statement addressing the Biafrans, sympathizers, and supporters, urging that neither IPOB nor its leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, should be associated with any cause of the delay.
In a message from IPOB’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Comrade Emma Powerful, the organization stated they are currently focused on other priority matters within their movement. While noting awareness of those allegedly involved in the 2021 abduction and extradition of their leader from Kenya, IPOB asserted they would respond to that matter at the appropriate time.
IPOB’s statement also highlighted that late Senator Ubah may have faced opposition among the people of Nnewi, his hometown, and that any cultural or traditional issues surrounding his burial lie within the community’s local jurisdiction. IPOB expressed respect for Nnewi’s rich cultural heritage and affirmed that it would not interfere in traditional matters, emphasizing that IPOB should not be implicated in these local issues.
Comrade Powerful further advised community leaders and influential individuals in Biafra Land to remain mindful of their relationship with the people, warning that failure to honor the values of the community may result in societal consequences, even after their passing.
