Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Worldwide has voiced strong support for President Bola Tinubu’s recent decision to increase petrol prices, highlighting the positive reforms under his administration.
In a statement issued on Sunday, September 8, 2024, Chukwuma Okpalaezeukwu, the acting national leader of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Worldwide, expressed optimism that the petrol price hike, part of President Tinubu’s economic policies, will eventually lead to improvements in the sector.
Support for Reform Efforts
Okpalaezeukwu acknowledged the ongoing challenges in the fuel sector but emphasized that President Tinubu is not to blame for the current crisis. He commended the administration’s efforts to overhaul the petroleum industry, including the recent price increase, which he believes is crucial for the sector’s long-term development.
“We are proud of the remarkable achievements of the Tinubu-led administration, including the increase in crude oil production,” Okpalaezeukwu stated.
Criticism of Previous Administrations
The youth group attributed the fuel crisis to poor governance and mismanagement by previous administrations. Their statement followed a detailed discussion during their 52nd Extraordinary National Executive Committee meeting in Abuja.
Okpalaezeukwu noted that the group has had productive discussions with Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, stressing the need for continued reforms to benefit the Nigerian people.
Advocacy for Enhanced Community Engagement
The group also called for more effective community and youth engagement to address issues such as pipeline vandalism and theft. They expressed solidarity with the Ministry of Petroleum Resources and other agencies involved in resolving the fuel crisis.
“We advocate for increased community involvement and youth development to help curb sector-related challenges,” Okpalaezeukwu added.
This support underscores Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Worldwide’s commitment to contributing positively to Nigeria’s economic reforms and improving the overall well-being of its citizens.
