Heartland FC coach Emmanuel Amuneke has voiced confidence in his team’s readiness to face nine-time champions Enyimba in their 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League opener. The match is set to take place at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri by 4pm today being Sunday.
Heartland, who were relegated last season, were reinstated to the NPFL following the disqualification of Beyond Limits Football Academy due to a violation of league regulations on dual ownership. To close their pre-season preparations, Heartland secured the Dan Anyiam Cup, defeating Kun Khalifat FC 2-1 in Owerri, with goals from Samuel Wisdom and Benjamin Victor.
Amuneke, who took charge in August, emphasized the importance of preparation and team development. “We’ll be ready for Enyimba. Football isn’t about making bold predictions, but about continuous hard work. This is a team in progress, and while many players from last season are gone, I am impressed with the new additions. They’re gaining valuable experience,” he said.
Heartland has signed 30 new players for the upcoming season. Established as Spartans FC in 1985 and later renamed Iwuanyanwu Nationale, the club boasts four consecutive NPFL titles from 1987 to 1990. They also reached the finals of the 1988 African Cup of Champions Clubs and the 2009 CAF Champions League.
