Speed Darlington, a Nigerian talented singer, comedian, and content creator, has been released on bail following his detention over cyberstalking allegations. Darlington, whose real name is Darlington Okoye, was arrested after a petition was filed by fellow musician Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, accusing him of cyberbullying.
The arrest took place in Lagos, with Darlington eventually transferred to Abuja, where he was held by the Inspector General of Police’s Intelligence Response Team (IRT). He was released to his lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, after meeting the conditions set by the authorities.
Adeyanju, who had access to the petition, stated that there was no solid evidence justifying Darlington’s arrest. He added that the police had refused to give him a copy of the petition but allowed him to review it.
The case stirred public attention after Darlington’s mother, known as Queen, posted a video expressing concern over her son’s disappearance. She claimed that Burna Boy and his team were responsible for his arrest, calling for Nigerians to help secure his release. In the video, she pleaded for Burna Boy to release her son, describing Speed Darlington as her only child.
Darlington’s arrest followed a video he made about Burna Boy and American rapper Diddy, leading to the cyberstalking accusation.
